The Birdhouse Project was completed by students enrolled during Spring 2019 in Professor Hugh Crawford’s course, LMC 3308, Environmental Ecocriticism. Assisting Professor Crawford were Building Memories intern, Yonatan Weinberg, and graduate student Udaya Lakshmi. Partners for the course were Professor Jacqueline Jones Royster, the coordinator of Building Memories, and Ms. Christi Jackson, Director of the Conservancy at Historic Washington Park. Funding for the project was provided by the Serve-Learn-Sustain Program at Georgia Tech.
With each of the buildings, the goals were for the students: to build a birdhouse; research the community importance of the building; research the birds that might occupy the birdhouse and the environments in which they live; produce a podcast; and create an interactive display to be installed in Historic Washington Park. The class also created a website to capture and present the work that they did in the course.
